Michael Eric Dyson, a well known sociology professor here at Georgetown, appeared on “Meet the Press” this morning. Joining him and host Chuck Todd was former Mayor of New York Rudy Giuliani.
The two debated the media’s coverage of Michael Brown’s shooting by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., an incident that has sparked debates not just by politicians but also by students across the country, including at Georgetown. Dyson and Giuliani had a contentious discussion regarding the relationship between race relations and police activity. Video of the debate, which has since gone viral, can be seen below.
Michael Dyson teaches multiple courses in the sociology department on campus, including “Hip Hop Culture,” “Barack Obama and Race” and “Sociology of Hip Hop: Jay-Z.”
