The Most Underrated Things of Our Generation

Sometimes people, places, things, my sense of humor, etc.  just don’t get the love and attention they deserve. Excluding myself, here’s a list of what I think are the most underrated things of our generation.

Fergie

What ever happened to Fergie? She didn’t go anywhere, but apparently we did. She has bangers for every occasion. Feeling emotional? “Big Girls Don’t Cry (Personal).” Feeling lit? “A Little Party Never Killed Nobody.” Feeling yourself? “Fergalicious.” Here’s to more Fergie in our lives.

Same

The Jersey Shore

The Jersey Shore is one of the cornerstones of our generation. We have so much to thank it for. GTL (that is, gym tan laundry), fist bumping, Snooki, etc. are some of the figures of our generation that this show produced. As a New Jersey native, I am offended that my state gets a bad rep from this iconic tv show when it should, in fact, get the opposite.

Greyson Chance

Remember that boy in 2010 who ~broke the internet~ and captured every tween girl’s heart when he released his rendition of Lady GaGa’s “Paparazzi”? Well, you should because it was incredible. Greyson is all grown up, but he has not left us. He has some solid music out now (perhaps not as great as his debut though) and you should all give it a listen.

Still no response

Applebee’s

You may think Applebee’s is a just some chain restaurant you drive by on the highway, but it is so much more than that. The deals here are crazy. For readers over 21, of course, Applebee’s offers a $1 specialty drink every month. Drinks have ranged from Margaritas to Long Island Iced Teas to Bahama Mamas, the current special. I think it’s time for everyone to hit their local Applebee’s.

I feel God in this *Applebee’s tonight

Lau 1

Most people don’t even know Lau 1 exists, but for those who do, you know what I am talking about. The cubicles are larger, the air is warmer and the community is stronger. The Lau 1 Regulars Club might actually be the most exclusive organization at Georgetown. AND I BELONG TO IT.  Once you go Lau 1, you never go back.

Don’t steal my cubicle

Readers, be the change I want to see in the world and start giving these things the love and attention they deserve. You won’t be sorry.

Where in the World are the Real Healy Clock Hands?

The clock hands on Healy Tower were finally put back this morning, but apparently they’re not the ones that were stolen. So while Healy can tell time again, the original hands are still at large. Join us as we consider their possible location.

Vatican City According to tradition, once the hands are stolen they should be sent to the Vatican for a blessing from the Pope, then returned. Hopefully they’re shaking hands with Pope Benedict right about now. But while our alleged clock thieves Reaper, Juliet and Goliath claim that the hands were safely on their way to the Vatican it could just be a ruse to hide their true destination.

London, England To visit Big Ben at Westminster Palace and exchange all the hottest clock-related gossip. I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that these famous clocks have been hiding a secret relationship for years. I mean, do we have any proof that they actually go to Italy? For all we know, they could be sharing a plate of fish and chips with Big Ben.

Mecca, Saudi Arabia But if we’re talking impressive clocks, there’s a chance that Healy’s hands are paying a visit to the Mecca Royal Hotel Clock Tower, which is home to the tallest clock tower in the world with the largest clock face, 46 meters in diameter. That’s a whole lot of clock.

New Jersey 90% of Georgetown is from here anyway, maybe the hands just skipped out on finals and headed home, leaving the clock tower to deal with its 19th Century Gothic Architecture final alone.

Best Bets: Poets and Pauly D

The student body will soon disperse as everyone heads to his or her tropical destination for Spring Break, but it’s the last weekend at Georgetown, which means you have to make it count. This week’s Best Bets has got you covered.

FRIDAY

Want to help a great cause and also have a ton of fun? Check out the “Louder Than a Bomb” Fundraiser Party at the Dunes (1402 Meridian Pl. NW) this Friday from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The event is 18+ and a $10 donation is encouraged to fund the first-ever Louder than A Bomb High School Poetry Slam Festival in D.C. in June 2012. There will be live performances by some fantastic D.C. youth poets and clips will be shown from the documentary “Louder Than a Bomb,” a film based on the world’s largest teen poetry slam. It is recommended to purchase a ticket prior to the show since space is limited.

SATURDAY

This Saturday, DJ Pauly D, a cast member of the highly entertaining MTV reality show, “The Jersey Shore,” will be performing at Fur Nightclub (33 Patterson St. NE). Doors open at 10 p.m., and anyone older than 18 can attend. This crazy character is sure to guarantee a great time full of some house music, top 40, hip-hop, mash up and more! The opening set is Evan Baker and Tony Atkinson.

SUNDAY

DC Fashion Week is coming to a close, so a great way to end your own weekend would be to attend the International Couture Collections event at the French Embassy (4101 Reservoir Rd. NW) from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. At this finale event, international designers will present their collections. The fashion show starts at 6 p.m., and a ticket is required to attend. A general admission ticket costs $70 — pricy, but well worth it to see some truly extraordinary fashion.
