Friday Fixat10ns: Christmas Rap Essentials

Merry merry finals everyone! We hope you’re all feeling jolly as ever. I know I am. This year I’m grateful to be sitting on cozy Lau 4 instead of dealing with drunk Santas on the LIRR.

Here at 4E we know that many of you are getting through the finals slog by hitting up your trusty Christmas playlist. We have a new one to help you spice things up: The Essential Christmas Rap Playlist. Enjoy and have a very Ludachristmas.

1. Ludachristmas Ludacris

We’ve never been happier to hear Luda’s jolly laugh. He just wants to spread a little cheer with his Christmas tree decked with toilet paper and some Jolly Ranchers and candy canes.

2. Sleigh Ride TLC

They don’t want scrubs for Christmas, so Prancer better not be hanging out of the passenger side of Santa’s ride trying to holler at them. T-Boz wants headphone sets and a fly dress for Christmas. And they all want love and joy and happiness and lots of good cheer.

3. Christmas in Harlem  Kanye West ft. Featuring Cam’ron, Jim Jones, Vado, Cyhi Da Prynce, Pusha-T, Musiq Soulchild, Teyana Taylor and Big Sean

This may be the greatest Christmas song I’ve ever heard. Would you expect anything less from a self-proclaimed God?

4. Jingle Bells  Trey Songz ft. Flo Rida

This music video is so wholesome, it makes us uncomfortable. Where is the Trey Songz we know and love? What is the point of the scarf? Trey Songz asked Santa for jewels this year and Flo Rida asked for this song to end.

5. Christmas in Hollis Run DMC

Run wants an ill reindeer for Christmas. He also wants a million dollars to buy a boat and a matching car but he doesn’t want it bad enough to steal a million dollars from Santa’s wallet.

6. Deck Da Club  Ying Yang Twins

The Ying Yang Twins want the club to be decked in boughs of money this Christmas. I will be in search of the Ying Yang Twins this holiday season. I would like a bough of money.

7. A Christmas F*cking Miracle Run The Jewels

This song is not as fun as you would expect. In fact it’s not fun at all. We don’t really know why we included it, but it has Christmas in the title and the music video is great. El-P wants to learn to look both ways both ways before he crosses the street for Christmas.

8. A Jehovah’s Christmas  Troy and Abed

Your favorite characters from Community devise a plan to allow a Jehovah’s Witness, Troy, to celebrate Christmas and participate in the Glee’s Club’s Christmas pageant. Troy wants to finally earn Kendrick Lamar’s respect this year (don’t we all?).

5 Ways to Get in the Holiday Spirit at College

elf-1

Here at 4E, we rejoice in all things Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza-related. Not even the soul-crushing Grinch that is Lau during finals can bring down our holiday spirits. This week, we did some Pinterest trolling (instead of our long list of papers) for the best DIY ways to celebrate the holidays at college and spread some joy.

tumblr_myckldVOnf1rawb5do1_5001.  Drink Nutella Hot Chocolate

Why waste precious Facebook stalking study time on the last-call Mug line (#ugh) when you can make your own unbelievably good – and easy – hot chocolate? Seriously, this is doable even in a common room kitchen. Just heat milk until steaming in a saucepan on medium-high heat, then whisk in two tablespoons of Nutella until dissolved. Pour in a thermos, add some whipped cream and chocolate syrup, and you’re ready to go! Buddy the Elf approved.

This next one is slightly more complicated, but equally delicious. Nothing says “Ho Ho Ho” quite like Christmas cookies. If you don’t lose your self control at the sight of Pillsbury’s holiday themed slice-and-bakes, something is wrong with your childhood (or you’re just not an obese American #sorrynotsorry).

tumblr_lebsdnhbUK1qfpcniFor those with more gourmet tastes, we recommend these hot cocoa cookies with chocolate chunks and marshmallows melted on top. Find the recipe here, then wipe the drool off your face.

The drab plaster and fluorescent lights of most dorm rooms can sometimes make it hard to feel like you’re walking in a Winter Wonderland during the holiday season. Get two for the price of one by building a Christmas tree on your wall out of twinkle lights! Bonus points if you hang up some homemade ornaments.

In case your neighbors didn’t already know you #rage, make a holiday wreath from red solo cups to hang on your door. Tape cups together in the arrangement of your choosing and finish it off with a nice big bow. Also, it’s a great way to reduce, reuse and recycle!d4dadf667bb09380eabd8bdaeac77f135. Take a Christmas Card Instagram

Like Friendsgiving, but with the extra ego boost that is breaking your likes record. Get your closest friends or roommates, grab some Santa hats and ugly holiday sweaters, and gather round for a snapshot in the jolliest pose you can think of. Nothing says, “We know the true meaning of Christmas,” quite like fighting over which filter makes you look most tan.

So bring some cheer to your finals season the 4E way. When in doubt, quote Elf and eat tons of chocolate.

Holiday Spirit in Dahlgren Quad

dahlgren

With the Pumpkin Spice Latte being gradually replaced by the Peppermint Mocha as the drink of choice for all basic Georgetown students, one can tell the holidays are slowly taking over campus.

The advent of the holiday season means a lot will be happening at Georgetown in the coming weeks. There will be the RHO rush of care packages, the themed happy hours, as well as the many wonderfully planned activities sponsored by various Georgetown administrative offices and student groups!

One of 4E’s favorite festivities is happening this Friday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. in Dahlgren Quad: the Lighting of the Georgetown University Christmas Tree!

The Georgetown University Department of Performing Arts, the Mask and Bauble Dramatic Society, and the Office of the President invite all members of the Georgetown community to convene this Friday night for some good times and holiday cheer.

Here is a breakdown of what you can expect on this jolly night:

1. The actual lighting of the tree. Dahlgren Quad is the most picturesque spot on campus in the winter and the only thing to make it better is a ginormous, glowing tree right in the middle of it.

Gorgeous, isn’t it?

2. Hot cocoa and snacks. Georgetown doesn’t skimp when it comes to holiday cheer. There will be snacks and hot cocoa served to all of the people waiting outside throughout the event’s activities. Life doesn’t get more delicious than hot cocoa.

3. Mask and Bauble’s performance of “A Christmas Carol.” Come and see the incredibly talented dramatic society put on this Christmas classic. I’m sure it will live up to the fond memories of your awkward 8th grade self hopelessly stumbling through Tiny Tim lines in English class. Or was that just me?

4. Holiday music. Various Georgetown musical groups will be showcasing their talents through classic holiday hits. You can bet the 4E bloggers will be performing our group interpretive dance to Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas is You.”

5. Temperate DC winter weather. Although weather.com says it will be a nice cool 45 degrees this Friday night, based on recent trends, that could easily change to 75 degrees. Nothing screams “holiday” like a 0% chance of snow and the ability to rock a t-shirt to the event.

So get ready for tons of Georgetown themed holiday cheer!

Take a Break With Santa Tomorrow Night

Breakfast with Santa

Dreading the upcoming week of finals? Excited about the end of classes? Hungry for pancakes? Whatever the reason, get ready for Breakfast with Santa Claus tomorrow night. At 10 p.m. in the Great Room of the HFSC, InterHall will be serving up free pancakes, hot chocolate and coffee.

Maybe you think this event is beneath you. But you know who else loves pancakes?

The President.

Also, Santa will be there, as you can see in the letter below.

You won’t want to miss out on this — even if it’s just for a study break. All I’m hoping for is that DeGioia shows up in a red suit and a large white beard.

Activities for You and Your Cold Weather Crush

Feeling cold? There’s nothing like body heat to do the trick, so why not grab a date to keep you warm? I mean, come on guys, it’s simple science. As the leaves fall away and we’re left with a cooler climate to contend with, take solace in all the new date possibilities that become available. So make yourselves available… winter wonder is in store for all of you.

  1. Ice Skating: Girls, we know you (thought you) were a figure skater when you were just younger, show off those figure eights. Guys, your move is not having any moves, do you need to hold on tight to keep yourself from falling (head over heels)? The tighter the better… or if you’re both skating aficionados, there’s always room for a little friendly competition to bring people together. Racing anyone?
  2. Coffee: It’s cold, you need something warm, and just like in the movies you get asked out for a coffee date. It’s simple, it’s casual, and it’s cute. Do it. Nothing like watching the snow fall with a hot drink in your hand. Hot chocolate is also always an option. As is Irish coffee: nothing like a little alcohol to spice things up.
  3. Sea Catch: Good food. Fireplace. Done. Talk a walk by the canal when you’re done eating for some prime hand holding time.
  4. Movies: We all know what Christmastime means: movie releases. Not what you were thinking? Oh… Well then. Take a date to the movies for some cold air relief. It’s dark, you get to sit…. The upsides are endless.
  5. Concerts: Hit up the 9:30 club for some awesome shows. Nada Surf, G. Lov and Special Sauce (saucy!), and Alex Clare are in the next month’s line up. As you dance and sing along in a crowd of people, pushed together by the mosh pit, you can’t help but enjoy. You might want to skip Purity Ring’s performance… no no we kid.

I just wanted to let you guys know that in researching this article someone suggested strip bowling as a date idea, yep, take that for what you will, whatever it may be.

Stay warm, stay toasty, here here to winter cuddling, snuggling, and all around debauchery.
