So You Think You Can Snapchat? Try Pickle Instead

Pickle

Have you ever thought there is more to life than just being really, really, ridiculously good at Snapchatting? Are your snaps so witty and creative that your friends immediately screenshot and save them for their own personal entertainment? Do people know who you are because of your Snapchat prowess? We know you answered yes to the preceding questions.  So you agree? You think you’re really good at Snapchatting.

Luckily for you, the newest app, Pickle, will allow you to up your Snap game even more, which is kind of a big dill. It is, in essence, the Olympics of Snapchatting, making it the most exciting technological innovation since Facebook replaced Myspace.

Pickle allows you to create fun themed competitions for up to four users. Once all of the users submit their entries, the competition opens up and voting for the best Snap begins. Pickle has the potential to fulfill all of your wildest dreams as you can finally prove to everyone that you really are the greatest Snapchatter to ever exist (except if you lose). Given that the possibilities for competitions are seemingly endless, 4E decided to provide you with a few starting options:

Most Delicious Dining Option at Leo’s: Where do you even start, given the sheer number of appetizing choices Leo’s has to offer?  I mean have you seen the Leo’s website?  The pictures they post on there really do look pretty delicious, so I’m pretty sure you could snap something comparable given the right angle and lighting, right? (Well, maybe not. But it’s still worth a shot!)

Best Selfie with a Professor Taken During Class: This competition could really go in one of two directions. You could go with the stealthy approach where you take your snap without your professor even noticing. However, a more daring option would involve getting your professor to willingly participate in the debauchery. Could you imagine getting up in the middle of a packed lecture hall to personally request a selfie with your professor? That would hands down win any Pickle competition.

Most Stylish Outfit of the Day: Canadian tuxedos, Hawaiian shirts, turtle neck sweaters … Let your inner fashionista shine when you decide to partake in this competition! I’d even suggest mixing and matching your most stylish pieces to create one very fashion forward ensemble sure to win over the masses. I mean, why limit yourself to just jorts or just a sweater vest when you can easily rock both?

Best Georgetown-Themed Snap: Think you’ve got a lot of school spirit? Then why not show it off in this fun themed competition! Get a snap of you climbing the John Carroll statue while petting J.J. and eating a hot chick sandwich from Wisey’s and you’ll be a contender.

Most Awkward School Photo: This competition really has a special place in my heart, given my plethora of incredibly awkward school photos courtesy of my middle school years.  Braces? Check. Horrible haircut? Yup. Outfit that was super stylish for tweens circa 2006?  You know it. If your school photos from your awkward phase glory years meet this criteria, then you certainly have what it takes to win this battle!

So what are you waiting for, 4E readers? Go download Pickle and get your competitive Snap game on!

Calling All Mascot Hopefuls

New Mascot

We at 4E like to keep up with the Georgetown-themed social media pages. Georgetown University rocks an official Facebook page, Twitter profile and it racks up the likes on perfectly filtered Instagrams. Georgetown Hoyas, the athletic program’s social media moniker, does the same. You couldn’t believe the excitement the 4E bloggers exhibited while reading this tweet just a few days ago:

NEW JACK THE BULLDOG MASCOTS! Obviously, people are going to jump at the chance to represent the coolest college canine around. However will the athletic program choose? Well, we have a few ideas on how to get a Jack the Bulldog worthy enough to represent the Hoya community.

1. Cheddar Cheese and Carrot Eating Contest

Anybody who knows anything knows that Jack the Bulldog LOVES cheddar cheese and carrots. For a new Jack the Bulldog mascot, they should definitely be able to eat their fair share of this underrated delicacy. We will accept all forms of the food. (Bonus points if cooked in an Epi quesadilla.)

2. Georgetown History Trivia

20110406 ADV_0056

Jack the Bulldog is a smart animal. Many a time he can be seen lounging on Healy Lawn amongst the frantically studying Hoyas. Any mascot should be able to have half of this dog’s intelligence. We think a Jeopardy!-style game show would separate the true Jacks from the phonies. 99% of the questions should be about Patrick Ewing’s cameo in Space Jam.

3. Race Around the John Carroll Statue

Jack likes to hang out around Healy Circle. He struts his stuff around our founder John Carroll for hours on end. All prospective Jack mascots should race around Healy Circle to see who can separate themselves from the pack. To make it more of a challenge, the mascots need to navigate the crowd of freshman girls waiting for a Valencia-filtered Instagram on John Carroll’s lap.

4. Trash Carrying Contest

As pictured above, Jack knows how to take out the trash. To test general strength and determination, I propose a hardcore weightlifting competition. Participants should lift trash bags full of half-eaten Verizon Center chicken tenders and the tears of our opposition after a Hoya victory.

5. General Cuteness

I don’t think any explanation is needed.

6. Dance Dance Revolution Throwdown

We propose bringing this nerd-learns-to-dance-in-arcade game back, just as Justin brought sexy back. DDR would test the prospective mascots’ stamina and flair for the art of dance. We want to see you get down with your bad selves in the student section during basketball games.

As this post should show you, if you want to be the next Jack the Bulldog rallying the student body, you better be on your A game. Not just any person can strut their stuff in a bulldog costume. So break out your running shoes and your obscure Georgetown facts. Good luck to all hopefuls!

You thought I forgot, didn’t you? I don’t forget. I don’t mess around with competitions. Below, the five winners, and after those, the honorable mentions.

1. The Concealed Identity Selfie.

Five words for you: D.C. Superior Court Community Service. Although their identity is hidden on this unique photoshop job he/she did, you get the idea. Whoever you are, you rock for finding the time to take a selfie when doing community service on a D.C. highway. Way to find the humor in a serious thing. I like you.

2. The Classic (or Angst-y Teen) Selfie.

The self-take is really an art to be mastered, as showcased in this submission. Can’t you almost hear the Simple Plan playing in his room? Maybe too shy to submit them himself, it must be nice to know that you have such a kind friend living in VCE who really appreciates your talent and submitted them to the blog so you could have a chance at fame. Also, this may be a good time for an internet safety lesson: Always be careful with who you send pictures to over the internet, kids — you never know where they’ll show up, am I right?

3. The “Reasons Why You Regret Taking a Snapchat” Selfie.

Busted. It’s really a flaw in the design of SnapChat that you can take a screenshot of the disappearing picture, but as Forrest Gump says, it happens. And it happened that night during finals when you were bored enough to take this. Great work — it literally doesn’t even look like you. And I agree, middle parts are so much fun, Addie!

4. The Landmark Selfie.

So good, so iconic, so active. You Georgetown student, you.

5. The “Good Use of Another Object/Person” Selfie.

Like I said, good use of another object in your selfie. It’s like you’re actually with Wiz Khalifa instead of taking pictures of his picture taped above your bed, you know? Also, the facial expression. Are you guys related? Cousins? Second cousins? Brothers? So curious.

So, congrats. If you see these winners around campus, give ’em a high five. Or don’t if they’re strangers. Or do. #yolo
